Join us for an evening with Booker Prize-winning, bestselling author Yann Martel as he brings his latest book, Son of Nobody (Knopf Canada) to Winnipeg. Featuring a conversation hosted by Winnipeg Free Press literary editor Ben Sigurdson, followed by a book signing.
This event will be hosted live in the Atrium of McNally Robinson Booksellers, Grant Park and also available as a YouTube stream.
From the author of the international bestseller Life of Pi comes a retelling of the Trojan War from two commoners: an ancient soldier and modern scholar. In this masterpiece of myth, history, and domesticity, Son of Nobody explores how stories become facts, the price we pay to share them, and how we live—then, now, and always.
Yann Martel is the author of Life of Pi, the global bestseller that won the 2002 Man Booker Prize and was adapted to the screen in the Oscar-winning film by Ang Lee. He is the author of three other novels: Self, Beatrice & Virgil, and The High Mountains of Portugal, and a short story collection, The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios. He lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Host Ben Sigurdson is the literary editor, drinks columnist and a writer in the arts and life department at the Winnipeg Free Press. In 2005 Ben graduated from the University of Manitoba with an MA in English. He has served as a juror for regional and national book prizes, including the 2022 Kobzar Book Award and the Manitoba Book Awards 2022 McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award. He has three cats.
